Our Team

We aim to create a safe, inclusive workplace for all our staff and believe Diversity and Inclusion are key to our success. Our goals are to ensure that diversity is reflected and that our workplace is inclusive so that all employees can be themselves and feel welcomed and accepted. In 2020, we launched an Equity, Diversity and Inclusion initiative to assess our internal practices and deliver a strategy for positive outcomes. We have partnered with Diversio, a Canadian data and analytics company that focuses on supporting organizations in becoming more inclusive, to help us evaluate diversity and inclusion. We also launched an internal Female Mentorship Program in 2020.

Embracing Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

We aim to create a safe, inclusive workplace for all our staff and believe diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) are key factors in our success. Our goal is for diversity to be reflected and our workplace to be inclusive, so that all employees can be themselves and feel welcome and accepted.

We currently have several policies and programs in place that foster diversity, equity and inclusion, both at the hiring stage and during our employees’ tenure, including our workplace safety policy and program, our accessibility policy, our pregnancy and parental leave policy, as well as our training and development HR policy. In addition, we also:

  • Launched a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion initiative in 2020 to assess our internal practices and deliver a strategy for positive outcomes.
  • Partnered with Diversio, a Canadian data and analytics company that focuses on supporting organizations in becoming more inclusive, to help us evaluate diversity, equity and inclusion.
  • Initiated an internal Female Mentorship Program in 2020 to help Beutel Goodman’s female-identifying employees develop and reach their potential.
  • In 2021, we signed RIA Canada’s Canadian Investor Statement on Diversity & Inclusion, pledging to both engage with portfolio companies to enhance disclosure, adopt policies and targets, address hindrances to diversity and inclusion, and improve our own practices.
  • In 2022, we became a Silver Sponsor of Women Investment Professionals, an organization that provides a forum for networking and professional development for women involved in institutional investing, including plan sponsors, investment managers, consultants, accountants and attorneys.
  • In 2023, we adopted the CFA Institute Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Code for Investment Professionals in the U.S. and Canada, which provides investment industry organizations with an action-oriented and principles-based framework to drive measurable and meaningful change concerning DEI within their own organizations.
  • Also in 2023, we joined Investment Diversity Council, Inc. (IDAC), an independently operating forum for investment organizations to share best practices and document progress on diversity, equity and inclusion in the asset management industry.
  • In early 2024, we became a Partnership Accreditation in Indigenous Relations (PAIR) Committed company and started our journey of tracking and managing our Indigenous relations strategies. This represents our commitment to continual improvement in Indigenous relations and to working across cultures.

Our Community

We believe strongly in the power of community. To give back to ours, we encourage our employees to:

  • Participate in firm-wide fundraising initiatives annually;
  • Volunteer for causes and campaigns that hold personal attachment. To support these efforts, Beutel Goodman employees are eligible to take an annual volunteer day, in addition to other types of paid leave;
  • Participate on various charity boards and committees, including programs that directly support Indigenous communities; and
  • Volunteer their time to help run the Beutel Goodman Charitable Foundation.

Our Commitment to the Environment

Although Beutel Goodman is a relatively small organization, we are nonetheless cognizant of our own carbon footprint and have monitoring and reduction initiatives in place.

  • Our office building, owned and operated by RioCAN, has obtained the highest environmental certification from the Building Owners and Managers Association of Canada (BOMA Canada), Canada’s largest environmental building assessment and certification program. Read more about RioCAN’s sustainability initiatives at the Yonge Eglinton Centre, where our office is located.
  • We have implemented printing reduction initiatives, as well as recycling and composting programs in our employee common areas.
  • Our Responsible Investing Policy Statement includes our Climate Statement, which acknowledges the importance of addressing climate change as part of our investment process. We recognize the goals of the Paris Agreement and officially support the recommendations of the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD).
